THIS BRA PATTERN IS NOW DISCONTINUED, BUT COPIES MAY STILL BE AVAILABLE ON EBAY.
The pattern is made of non-stretch fabrics. Non-stretch meaning they have no elastane/lycra/spandex, but be of such fabric that it has some 'give'. The pattern asks for Tricot, which is a knit fabric, however, tricot comes in many forms, so when looking for fabric on our site, you should use a Cup/Liner fabric. The bottom cup can be made from a lace, and lined with a sheer liner, you can use a top cup lace, or edged tulle (use a paired/twin one so both sides are symmetrical).
The pattern has instructions for making your own bra strap. Of course, it makes more sense just to buy a metre of strap. The strap width and the rings sliders should be ordered in the same width, i.e 10mm strap, 10mm sliders. Click on any ring/slider/hook title for more info about this. Again, the pattern has details about making bra wire casing, but we would advise you to buy the ready made bra channel casing, it is far superior.
Bra Plush elastic is used for the under arm and band (also to elasticate the made strap, but you can omit this if you are using bought strap). Plush just means it is soft, so suitable to go next to your skin, it is essential you use BRA plush elastic. The lingerie plush is different, it is not as strong, so it is used for knickers, NOT bras. Use the quick find and search for what you need (i.e you can put Bra Plush 10mm Black - this will also bring up any plush backed strap so read carefully!)
The instructions for this pattern tell you to sew the casing on before the plush, if you are purchasing the ready made casing, then you should sew the plush on first, and the very last thing you should do is to put the casing on, so it overlaps the plush. The casing is thick so you cannot fold it over at the ends as the instructions suggest - your needle will not go through it, and it would be really bulky. Instead simply cut the casing off at the end, then bartack over to prevent the wire coming out. Take a look at a ready made bra, and you will see how the casing has been put on.
Wire information: The bra pattern states the
